We are very pleased to welcome Denise Folsom to our Green Wave counseling team. I would like to offer a glimpse into some of her uniqueness as a counseling professional.
Denise is a licensed mental health counselor and former early childhood teacher. She received her Master’s Degree in Counseling and Psychology from Troy University and Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Florida State University. Her previous profession was as an Early Childhood Educator which included teaching and doing workshops for kids (grades K-3) and their parents as well as being a Behavior Interventionist for ages 0-6. Denise is also a military spouse and mother of three which adds to her understanding of the challenges faced by both parents and military members.
Denise’s experience as a therapist has greatly focused on working with active duty military members and their families. She was a Program Manager for Emerald Coast Behavioral Hospital’s Military Resiliency Unit where she treated all aspects of life including combat/military trauma, sexual trauma, substance use/other addictions, depression, anxiety, separation, etc. Her training is diverse including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and EMDR for many issues including PTSD.
In closing, we are also very excited to share that Denise is pursuing certification in Play Therapy. A growing part of her practice at Green Wave has been working with distressed or exceptional children and their families. We think that you will agree that Mrs. Denise Folsom is a wonderful addition to our Green Wave team to help those in need from the very young to the adult populations.
